About the Mahindra Excellence in Theatre Awards
The Mahindra Excellence in Theatre Awards (META), instituted by the Mahindra Group, is far more than an awards ceremony. Over the past two decades, it has evolved into one of the most significant celebrations of Indian theatre, recognizing the creativity, diversity, and excellence of artists from across the country.
Over its 20-year journey, META has showcased plays and theatre practitioners representing every corner of India. Continuing this legacy of inclusivity and representation, the festival’s 20th edition featured shortlisted productions in six languages—Hindi, English, Bundeli, Kannada, Bengali, and Malayalam, highlighting the linguistic and cultural richness of India’s theatrical landscape.
The festival brought together over 156 artists, creating a vibrant platform that celebrated talent across multiple facets of stagecraft. From powerful performances and compelling original scripts to intricate set designs and stunning costume creations, META honours excellence at every stage of the theatrical process.
Recognizing contributions from playwrights, performers, directors, designers, and technicians, META celebrates the full spectrum of artistic collaboration that brings theatre to life. As it marked this milestone anniversary, the festival reaffirmed its commitment to nurturing, promoting, and amplifying the diverse voices that continue to shape the future of Indian theatre.
